What Arnio Collects and Why

This page describes exactly what Arnio collects from visitors to your Shopify storefront, how data is stored, and how it is used. Written for merchants, procurement teams, and legal reviewers.

1. Overview

This page describes exactly what Arnio collects from visitors to your Shopify storefront, how that data is stored, and how it is used. It is written for merchants reviewing Arnio before installation, and for procurement and legal teams conducting a vendor review.

Arnio's tracking script is installed on the merchant's storefront. It collects Shopper Engagement Signals, which are Behavioral Data that help identify high-intent shoppers. Arnio does not collect payment information, passwords, or any sensitive personal data.

3. What Arnio Does NOT Collect

Arnio does not collect the following:

  • Payment information or credit card numbers.
  • Bank account details.
  • Passwords or authentication credentials.
  • Browsing activity outside the merchant's storefront.
  • Email contents or SMS message contents.
  • Government-issued identification numbers.
  • Biometric data.
  • Sensitive personal categories: health information, religion, political views, race, or sexual orientation.

4. Browser Storage

Arnio currently uses browser storage rather than cookies. No tracking cookies are set by Arnio's script.

NamePurposeStorage TypeRetention
arnio_vidAnonymous visitor identifierlocalStoragePersistent until browser data is cleared by the user
arnio_sidAnonymous session identifiersessionStorageSession only, cleared when the browser tab is closed

Neither identifier is linked to a named individual until an authorized identity signal is received from an approved source.

5. Identity Resolution

Visitors remain anonymous until Arnio receives an authorized identity signal. Arnio does not infer, guess, or purchase identity.

When an authorized signal is available, Arnio associates the session's Shopper Engagement Signals with the identified profile, within the merchant's account only.

Authorized identity signals include:

  • Shopify customer data, when the shopper is logged in or has previously completed a purchase.
  • Checkout data (name and email) when submitted by the shopper during a transaction.
  • Klaviyo profile data, when the shopper has engaged with the merchant's Klaviyo emails or SMS.

A shopper identified in one merchant's account is never used to populate another merchant's account. Identity resolution is scoped to the merchant from whose storefront the data was collected.

6. What Arnio Sends to Klaviyo

When a shopper meets the merchant's routing criteria (minimum intent score and any other configured thresholds), Arnio adds them to the merchant's designated Klaviyo list and attaches Behavioral Data properties to their Klaviyo profile.

Properties sent to Klaviyo may include:

  • Intent score: a derived score indicating buying intent, based on session behavior.
  • Shopper classification: e.g. new visitor, returning visitor, high-intent.
  • Viewed products: list of product IDs viewed during recent sessions.
  • Viewed categories: list of collections browsed.
  • Session count: number of visits recorded for this visitor.
  • Traffic source: channel attribution for the most recent session.
  • Additional Shopper Engagement Signals as configured by the merchant.

Arnio does not create campaigns, modify flows, send emails, or take any action within Klaviyo other than adding a profile to the merchant's designated list and updating that profile's behavioral properties.

7. Data Usage Commitment

Merchant Data and Shopper Engagement Signals collected by Arnio are used solely to provide the Arnio service to the merchant whose storefront generated the data. Merchant Data is never:

  • Sold to third parties, data brokers, or advertising networks.
  • Shared between merchants or used to build Customer-specific Insights for other merchants.
  • Used to train public AI or machine learning models.

Aggregated, anonymized platform analytics (system performance metrics, error rates, and aggregate feature usage) may be used to improve platform reliability, security, and performance. This data cannot be used to identify individual merchants or shoppers.
